The Town of Alderpoint California
Alderpoint is a small rural community situated approximately 300 miles north of San Francisco, and east "over the hill" from the town of Garberville in Humboldt County. It is an unincorporated community located in the Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna metro area. Like most of Humboldt County, Alderpoint is near seal level with an elevation ofs 469 feet. The population is a scant 349 persons and about 230 families are served by the post office.
History of Alderpoint, California
In 1860 the Alderpoint area was first opened for homesteaders by the US government and thirty years later the first bridge was built over the Eel River. Alderpoint has a brief and non-descript history with most of its centering around this bridge over the Eel River. In 1919, a new bridge was built and lasted thirty years as the original bridge was not safe because a 1909 flood caused irreparable. The area was originally home to the indigenous Yurok tribe.
